Wonolo vs. Gigpro: Comparing On-Demand Job Platforms

Wonolo and Gigpro each have their own unique set of benefits and drawbacks. But which combination is the right recipe for your business' success?

Wonolo vs. Gigpro: A Guide to On-Demand Job Platforms

Although businesses have slowly started to recover the workforce losses they suffered in recent years, finding consistent, reliable workers remains a top challenge for employers.

Businesses are increasingly leaning on on-demand workforce platforms to mitigate staffing shortages, last-minute callouts, and seasonal demand. While there are several solutions out there, navigating your options requires a keen understanding of not only the platform’s capabilities but also your specific business needs.

In this blog, we’ll dive into a comprehensive comparison between Wonolo and Gigpro, exploring their respective strengths, weaknesses, and the distinct advantages they each bring to the table.

Let’s get started!

Wonolo Overview

Wonolo is an on-demand staffing platform that helps businesses find talent for their immediate labor needs.

Pros of Using Wonolo

  1. Range of Work Types: Wonolo caters to businesses in a variety of sectors, including retail, manufacturing, warehouse, hospitality, delivery, event staffing, and food production.
  1. More Thorough Vetting Process: To get started on the platform, Wonoloers must first review a mini user guide to understand the basics of accepting jobs and following best practices to remain in good standing. Additionally, Wonoloers must complete and receive a score of 100% on the Wonolo Onboarding Quiz.
  1. Broad Geographical Reach: Wonolo is currently available in more than 100 U.S. cities and is dispersed throughout all major regions of the nation.

Cons of Using Wonolo

  1. Placement Fee for Hires: Wonolo charges a placement fee to businesses for any Wonoloer whom they hire full-time. The fee businesses incur is based on the number of hours the Wonoloer worked and is broken down as such:
  • Number of hours worked is between 0 - 200: Hiring fee of $6,000
  • Number of hours worked is between 201 - 520: Hiring fee of $3,000
  • Number of hours worked is greater than 521: No hiring fee

Businesses that do not notify Wonolo within 30 days of making a hire will incur double their applicable placement fee.

  1. Less Specialized Workforce: Wonolo serves multiple industries in need of hourly workers, including hospitality, retail, manufacturing, warehousing, and food production.  Businesses on the platform may struggle to find highly specialized workers within a specific industry.
  1. Does Not Limit Background Check Applicants: Wonolo’s platform allows anyone to apply to a shift requiring a background check, even if they have not completed a background check. Once an unscreened Wonoler applies to a job requiring a background check, the platform will initiate the background check process. However, background checks can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to complete. If a Wonoloer’s background check is still pending before the start of a job, the application may be canceled.

Gigpro Overview

Gigpro is a platform that connects experienced food and beverage workers with hospitality businesses that need shifts filled on demand.

Pros of Using Gigpro:

  1. Limits Background Check Required Gig Applicants: When a business posts a gig that requires a background check, only Pros who have completed a background check can apply. This prevents anyone who is not a good fit from applying to a gig and only shares applicants who meet the gig requirement of a background check with the business.
  1. No Placement Fee to Hire: Businesses who would like to hire a Pro full-time can do so without incurring a placement fee from Gigpro.
  1. Quick Payment Processing: Gigpro typically facilitates fast and straightforward payment processing. Workers can receive their earnings quickly after completing a gig, providing financial flexibility and timely compensation for their services.

Cons of Using Gigpro:

  1. Less Thorough Vetting: Gigpro does not require the pros on its platform to have a minimum number of yearsof experience in the hospitality industry and does not appear to validate the certifications of workers of their platform.
  1. Smaller Geographical Reach: Compared to Wonolo, Gigpro has a smaller geographical reach and is more concentrated throughout the Midwest and East Coast of the United States. Gigpro currently serves 30 markets while Wonolo is available is over 100 cities.
  1. Inability to Clock-In/Out of Gigs: Gigpro operates on the “honor system” and does not have a clock-in/clock-out feature on its platform. This can make it difficult for Pros and businesses to maintain accurate records of time worked and, thus, facilitate accurate payouts.

Associated Costs

Both Wonolo and GigPro operate on a model where businesses pay for the services and workers receive their earnings.

The specific cost structure varies between the two so it’s essential to review the terms of service for each platform.

Wonolo

  • Service Fee: Wonolo charges businesses a 45% service fee for all 1099 requests and a 55% service fee for all W2 requests. This service fee is a percentage of the Wonoloer’s total payout.
